Weekly Reflection T2 W7

M – Office Duty, Rain

T – Inquiry, Road Patrol

W – Blank

T – Tech, Inquiry

F – Winter Sports Cancelled

I can remember a little bit about Monday. But not a lot of what happened on monday. I can remember doing office duty with my other friend because my friend that usually does it with me was not at school on monday. Also it was raining basically all day on monday so first and second break were inside breaks.

I can remember more of what happened on Tuesday than Monday because less stuff happened. There was a wet break again. It was so annoying. At the end of the day I did road patrol with my friend. I was the team leader. It was super fun.

On Thursday we did tech. It was so fun. I was paired up with my friend. We built a dancing robot. We couldn’t figure out a name for him. I thought of Jimmy but my friend said no. I did more inquiry and I finished my slide for inquiry. It was one of my teachers’ birthdays yesterday.

Today is Friday. We are doing more inquiry today but I am annoyed because winter sports are cancelled because of the rain. The fields are all muddy and will get messed up if you play sports on them.

During the week the RISE value I showed was success because I finished my inquiry slideshow.

This week I worked on a word search about a book called Broken wing its about a boy and his grandfather going fishing, his grandfather called out broken wing and a bird came then the bird gave directions with its beak. The next day the boy went back to where his grandfather called out to broken wing and the bird pointed in directions. The boy  asked here and the bird said yes here and jumped up and down so the boy stopped the boat but the bird pushed him in the water and the boy got back up onto the boat and rowed back to shore his parents were glad to see him.

How to make a homopolar motor

This is how to make a homopolar motor.

Equipment:

  • AA battery (any type)
  • Copper Wire

Neodynuim magnet (3-4)

– First collect all the materials, Copper Wire, Neodynuim magnets and an AA battery then cut the copper wire carefully 5-10 cm.
– After that create the shape of the copper wire. Place the wire on the battery to see if it fits. When it fits make sure the copper wire touches the magnets.

– If it is connected correctly the wire should spin. Watch out it may be hot!

The science

When the electrons travel through the wire near the magnets field, they experience a special push or shove called the Lorentz force. This force acts like a tiny sideways nudge, trying to push the electrons in a specific direction.

In a homopolar motor, the wire is usually shaped like a loop. Because the Lorentz force acts on the electrons throughout the loop, it creates a force that tries to rotate the entire loop around the centre of the magnet. This is like lots of tiny pushes working all together to spin the wire.
